The Lone County

I don't know what it is about the county in which I teach.  It's like we're trying to prove a point to all of the other surrounding counties --- look at us, we're different.  Check out our judgment calls - they're not like yours.

Last night when I got home, it was 6 degrees outside (very cold), and this morning wasn't much better.  It was still snowing and probably still is in some parts, and my car and all around my car was covered in snow.  

I watched the news and watched as every single surrounding county name scrolled by on the school closings strip at the bottom of the television screen.  Oh, even the community college in the county in which I teach was listed... but not my county's schools.  

My drive to work this morning was quite a drive.  The roads were white and covered in snow and ice - going down hill and around sharp curves were done with special care.  I drove very slowly and was thankful to make it to school safely, but I'm a bit frustrated with being here.

Every school district around us is closed, but I guess we're out to be different.
