OpenOffice is a collection of applications that work together closely to provide the features expected from a modern office suite. Many of the components are designed to mirror those available in Microsoft Office, and you can choose the file format in which you would want to save your project; so, you can create something in OpenOffice and later open it up and work with it in Microsoft Office.
